About D.U.R.T.

D.U.R.T. is a loosely organized series of trail runs.  We run on weekends in the Northern Utah area.

Back in 1998, Doug began leading long-distance trail runs in the San Jose, California Area.  A job transfer took Doug from California to Florida in 2002 at which time he suspended organized runs for almost three years.  There's not much mountain running in Florida!

Now, the DURT Dude has relocated to the Intermountain West and lives in Pleasant View, Utah.  And Utah Rocks!  Back on the ultra-training circuit, our runs take place along the Wasatch Front in the northern portions of the greater Salt Lake City area.

Our running shares a mutual interest in running off-road trails.  Some of us are training for ultrarunning races; others just like running long distances in the great outdoors.

All runners are completely self-supported and capable of taking care of themselves in remote areas.

DURT is:

  • VERY informal.
  • Distance running for all abilities.

DURT is NOT:

  • An internet business! (do not send solicitations!)
  • A structured training program.
  • A staff of personal trainers.
  • A coaching seminar.

Just friends running trails!  Just Doug doing the web site.  No staff.

A Note From Doug:

I make up the courses, and friends join me at their own risk.

I plan routes for their aesthetic qualities to optimize the training and wilderness experience.  Each runner that chooses to come along is responsible for his or her own needs and safety.  We support each other, and we care about our friends, but everyone is ultimately on their own.

These runs are not easy!  The courses are intentionally very strenuous.  Many times the trails are extremely rugged and technically difficult, and we run no matter what the weather conditions may be.  Sometimes, there will be parts of the course that won't even have a real trail, and we'll have to navigate through the wilderness.  We like it this way!

See warning.
