Wunderlich County Park (and
local environs) is one of our favorite areas to run. This is a beautiful park on the
eastern slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The trails are well maintained and rather
luxuriously graded (i.e., very runable).

General course description:
Starting from the main parking lot off La Honda Road, run up (west)
on the Alambique Trail and follow that trail all the way to The Crossroads. From there,
take the Skyline Trail up to Skyline Blvd and continue north out of the park. After about
four miles, cross Kings Mountain Road and continue on the Skyline Trail into Huddart Park.
This would be the turn around point for the 20 mile run. Extra mileage can be had by
running down into Huddart and returning to the Skyline trail. Either way, return to
Wunderlich via the Skyline Trail and take the Alambique Trail from the FIRST junction up
on Skyline Drive. This will be a left turn, and you will proceed down the hill back to
where you first left the Alambique Trail at The Crossroads. Backtrack on the Alambique
Trail for less than a mile then go left (north) on Bear Gulch Trail. Continue on Bear
Gulch Trail back to the main parking lot for the finish.
Directions to start:
Wunderlich Park is just west of the town of Woodside. From I-280,
turn off at the Woodside Road (Highway 84) exit. Go west towards Woodside, and proceed
approximately 4 miles through the town of Woodside. The main park entrance will be on the
right side of the road. It's very well marked. Maps and other information are available at
